When a puncture can be repaired

Most straightforward punctures caused by a nail or screw in the tread can be repaired safely, provided the damage is within the tyre’s central tread area, and the tyre hasn’t been driven on while flat for any distance. Damage to the sidewall, or a tyre that’s been run flat, usually can’t be repaired safely and needs replacing instead.

We inspect the tyre to check whether a repair is safe and appropriate, remove the cause of the puncture, and fit a proper repair from the inside of the tyre, rather than a temporary plug alone. Once repaired, we’ll check the tyre holds pressure correctly before we finish the job.

Not every puncture is repairable, and attempting to repair damage that isn’t safe to fix would put you at risk further down the line. If the puncture is in the sidewall, the tyre has been run flat, or there’s existing damage nearby, we’ll explain why a repair isn’t appropriate and talk you through replacement options instead.
